Students will join Dr. Wright and other leading faculty to examine the intersections of prophetic ministry and the study of Religions of the Black Atlantic Diaspora, Prophetic Preaching, Black Sacred Music, Black Theology, and Pastoral Care. Additionally, scholars will participate in classes traveling to West Africa and South Africa.
African-Centered Religious Thought is “religion” as understood and taught from an African center. It tells the story of Africans from an African perspective. African-Centered (or Africentric) theology, ethics, history of religions, church history, biblical studies, hermeneutics, Womanist theology, psychology, religion and psychology, all start from the premise that Africans are subjects of history and not objects.
This Doctor of Ministry will teach clergy how to use the lenses of African-descended peoples to see God, other human beings, and the world God loves. It will teach ministers how to do ministry from an African-centered perspective.
McCormick Theological Seminary encourages, embraces, celebrates, and prepares women and men from all denominations and backgrounds for Christian ministry and service, advancing a model of education that is cross-cultural, urban, Reformed, and ecumenical. At McCormick, theological education is meant to be transformational. It is meant to change attitudes and actions, values and priorities, and approaches to foster the kind of leadership that makes a difference.
The McCormick Doctor of Ministry is designed to meet the theological education needs of individuals who desire to lead in bold and faithful ways today and tomorrow. Located in the historic Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, McCormick Theological Seminary offers a diverse and vibrant community for students to acquire the skills for leading ministries that deeply impact communities and affect public change.
