The BPFNA Summer Conference is an annual gathering for everyone who longs for the spirituality, inspiration, skills, knowledge and community to support a life of peace rooted in justice. Taken from BPFNA’s five-year overarching theme of No Longer Strangers: Crossing Borders for Peacemaking, the 2016 focus is specifically on When Did We See You in Prison: Breaking Social and Structural Injustice.
And we’re thrilled that in 2016 we’ll be at Cheyney University, located just 20 miles west of Philadelphia!
Cheyney is the oldest HBCU (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) in the US, and it has a long history of providing a quality education to students who may otherwise be unable to attend college. Unfortunately for the past few decades, Cheyney’s enrollment and state funding have been in a serious decline. Meeting on its campus will give conference participants the opportunity to stand with Cheyney as it faces the challenges of moving forward against tremendous odds in light of an unjust state funding system and the negative publicity that hampers its efforts. Furthermore, BPFNA has a history of standing up for racial justice. Especially recently, as we have undergone an internal organizational examination, our commitment to dismantling systemic and structural racism has intensified. The invitation from Cheyney, plus the relevance of the 2016 theme, could not be more perfect. This symbolizes BPFNA’s growth as an organization and points us toward where we want to be in the future. The opportunity will hopefully allow us to form, build, and strengthen relationships as we continue to do this work.
We hope you will join us for an amazing Conference!
