On this day, God is standing on a ledge, having thrown us out one more time, and is beseeching us to learn who we are. God knows; God just wants us to know. God is calling out to us, “arch your back!”
God is walking toward us, Hand outstretched. God, help us to have eyes to see so that we can leave the middle of the sidewalk, and run to the source of our strength.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me…We all know the words, but it may be that very few of us understand, embrace and walk in the truth of those words.
When we surrender and trust God like that, even in our darkest moments, God, “The Force” does what only God can do.
In our dealing with the Unknown, whether it brings us good news or bad news, we learn who we are.
Faith means that we understand that no matter what comes our way, no matter how hard, vicious and ugly the battle, that in the end, there is and will always be God.
It has always struck me that in our country, it is OK for anyone who has been denied justice to be angry about it – except for black people.
All this wrestling for justice does not dismiss the fact that in our lives, we must wrestle against the opponents of our peace and well-being at the same time. Our relationship with God trains us and gives us the stamina to do both.
The songs we sing help us say, “Through the storm, and the rain, through heartache, yes, and pain, thank God I still, still, still have joy!”
